Dead Pixels is my first public project. It's in an early pre-alpha stage, so I'm aware that there are some things that need polishing and improvement. Therefore, I ask for your patience on that

Dead Pixels is a 2D pixel fast-paced tactical action game. A system that combines speed with strategic planning.

You have a base that you can move using the W, A, S, D controls. Your base generates squads which contain pixels (units). Control your squads by giving them movement orders to attack other enemy squads. The goal is to kill everyone else and win.

The intention of the AI is to be competitive and feel like another player, capable of making mistakes to keep things fair, but at the same time I tried to make it smart so it's not too easy. The AIs have personalities: defensive, tactical, and aggressive. This makes each one feel different, act differently, and feel like a real player. I should make it clear that this might not be fully polished yet.

It has 3 difficulties, each offering a greater challenge, and it's not just about making the enemy a bullet sponge. Each difficulty makes the AI smarter and makes it take much more coherent decisions. This makes levels replayable, since on some difficulties the levels also change.

The maps, although they're not the best and will probably go through several changes during development, are made (or that's the idea) to be strategic and pose an extra challenge.

Win each level to get a reward and unlock new zones. For now, the game has 3 different zones, each with a different style and its own challenge.

The idea of launching this project in pre-alpha is to find out what bugs it has, and partly because I've lost a bit of motivation. So if this works, it would help me a lot to continue development. I would appreciate your feedback to improve, and your support for this project if you truly liked it.

Future improvements I'd like to implement:

Pre-alpha 0.1.0:

  • Smart and challenging AI.
  • Adaptive difficulty levels. The AI improves its capabilities, stats, and learns from you depending on the difficulty level you choose.
  • Levels and zones designed to pose an extra challenge by incorporating obstacles for both the AI and you.

Alpha 0.2.0:

  • Different types of bases and units, each with their own pros and cons to add more strategy to the game. The AI will use the units' benefits to its advantage, adapting and changing its playstyle.
  • Territory bonus system, traps, and map elements for greater variety and strategy in levels.
  • New levels and zones.

Alpha 0.3.0:

  • Accessory system to add more strategy to matches. Both the AI and the player will be able to get accessories to equip and gain certain advantages. Together with the units, this will allow for the creation of more complex and strategic builds.
  • Extra difficulty level: global roguelike extreme. Smarter AI, more challenging levels, and a difficulty where if you die, you have to start from scratch.
  • New levels and zones with a defined and advanced difficulty level.
  • Crafting system adapted to the gameplay style, where the replayability of different levels will have more purpose in order to get resources. This opens the door to better progression to get accessories, bases, and a few other things.

Version 0.4.0:

  • Equippable weapon system for your base.
  • Visual and effect customization system.
  • New bases and units.
  • New accessories.
  • More levels.
  • Addition of bosses to zones. The lore will start to make sense.

Version 0.5.0:

  • Changes to music and sounds.

Full version 1.0.0:

  • Everything above polished with bug fixes.
  • New game modes against the AI, already incorporated into some levels.
  • Mobile version.
  • Steam version.
  • Achievements.
  • More frequent updates and more consistent addition of levels and content.

Periodic updates:

  • Daily challenges and leaderboards added.

Version 2.0.0:

  • Multiplayer mode.
  • Improved base customization for the player.
  • New levels and zones.
  • Level editor for community maps.
  • Community-created stories. Everyone will be able to create their own levels, stories, zones, accessories, units, etc., like mods.
